Iconic French Designer Christian Liaigre is one of my absolute favorite designers.  While he is associated with interior architecture, another specialty is furniture design. His passion for elegant craftsmanship mixed with the manipulation of materials to achieve the perfect result is apparent throughout his collection and large-scale projects like Le Sereno in Saint Barthélemy andThe Jervois in Hong Kong.

More on Christian Liaigre …

Born in the west of France, nearby the Atlantic Ocean, designer and decorator Christian Liaigre certainly owes his main inspiration to nature and true craftsmanship. Those years of contemplation have generated a creative spirit based on the use of materials such as woods weathered by the sea and the sand as well as fine leathers worked according to the traditions of saddle making.

After studying at the Paris Academy of Fine and Decorative Arts, he teaches technique of drawing at the Academy Charpentier during a period when the French capital witnesses the presence and the success of artists like Brancusi, Poliakoff or Giacometti. However, as design and decoration hardly develop in the country at the end of the sixties, he decides to go back to nature and dedicates himself to horse-breeding, one of his main passions.

Ten years away from Paris strengthened his need to go back and communicate the beauties of this experience into drawing and artistic creativity. The Maison Nobilis wants him to take up its artistic direction and gives him the opportunity to create his first furniture line and the now successful concept of “home fragrance”.

In 1985, creation of the research department. Christian Liaigre starts his own label in 1987 with the opening of his first showroom in Paris at 61, rue de Varenne 75007 and then a second Parisian showroom at 42 rue du Bac, later followed by London, Bangkok and Saint-Barthélémy in the Caribbean. He concentrates on developing research both in interior architecture and in furniture design with his studio team composed of twelve interior designers and architects. His furniture is now exclusively distributed abroad by: Holly Hunt Ltd in the US – New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Minneapolis and OAK – Brussels in Belgium.

Believing that “decoration must not be a fashion” and that superfluous decorative elements impede the natural accomplishment of integration into space, his intention is to create an atmosphere where one can feel comfortable and find one’s own place. In 2004, Christian Liaigre had his first book published entitled “Maison Liaigre”. It features eight of his projects completed during the course of the last five years. In 2007, he had his second book published made up, entitled “LIAIGRE”, of six beautiful projects throughout the world.

Since 2004, the brand Christian Liaigre has been considered as a member to the Comite Colbert. Nowadays he devotes himself in particular to working for private client with his team base in Paris.
